Coin and the surrounding area (click photos to enlarge).
Coin is a typically Spanish town in the Guadalhorce valley about half an hour away from Malaga, big enough to provide all the facilities you need (including several good schools) but small enough to keep its unique character.
There are new and excellent road links to the airport and to the seaside, including Fuengirola and Marbella. And in the other direction, inland, easy access to the spectacular scenery of the Sierra de las Nieves (snow mountains), Ronda and Antequera, as well as the beautiful lake region.
It is a town rich in history and with many annual traditions.
These include the May feria, the August feria, the June romeria (one of the largest and most colourful in the area), the Fiesta de la Naranja (orange festival) and a New Year celebration second to none with so many in fancy dress.
The villa is situated in one of the most sought–after locations of Coin, El Rodeo, a hill which gives unrivalled views of both the town and the surrounding countryside. The roads here are maintained by the council and do not have private urbanisation charges.
It's an international community with many professional Spanish residents, as well as English, Scandinavian, German and French home owners. The area is exclusive and peaceful but a short walk downhill brings you to a thriving strip of shops and businesses, including several banks, restaurants and bars, garages, ferreterias (DIY stores) and more.
Five minutes walk in another direction brings you to the Commercial Centre of La Trocha which has cinemas (including English language films) and a popular gym as well as retail outlets and cafes. If you walk over the other side of the hill behind the house you find yourself in the "campo" which is great for dog walking, running, mountain biking etc. In springtime the hillsides are covered in a riot of colourful wild flowers.
